Mark Julius Comendador Estur is a corporate and transactional attorney with experience advising businesses, investors, funds, and entrepreneurs on mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital transactions, securities matters, corporate structuring, regulatory compliance, and commercial agreements.
Mark brings a distinctly international and business-focused perspective to his practice. He has advised on private equity and venture capital investments, co-investments, secondary transactions, fund formation, private fund investments, mergers and acquisitions, and the formation of holding companies, limited partnerships, and other business entities in the United States and internationally.
Before joining Carbon Law Group, Mark practiced in New York and Washington, D.C., where his work included securities regulation and enforcement, investment management, digital assets and blockchain, cybersecurity, ERISA compliance, corporate transactions, and private investment matters. He has also served as managing lawyer of his own firm in the Philippines and spent eight years leading the legal and compliance department of a technology company, giving him firsthand experience with the practical challenges faced by business owners and in-house legal teams.
His prior work has included advising companies in technology, business process outsourcing, entertainment, film and television, manufacturing, real estate, wholesale and retail, and other regulated industries. Mark has counseled clients on corporate governance, reorganizations, commercial contracts, data privacy, cybersecurity, employment matters, regulatory compliance, dispute resolution, and cross-border business issues.
Mark earned his LL.M. from Columbia Law School, where he received the Parker School of Foreign and Comparative Law Certificate of Academic Achievement and Excellence for International Law and Comparative Studies and was recognized as a Public Interest/Public Service Law Honoree. While at Columbia, he represented the New York State Bar Association at sessions of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law involving electronic commerce and insolvency law.
He received his J.D. from San Beda University College of Law and his Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the University of the Philippines, where he was recognized on the Dean’s List. In addition to being an attorney, Mark is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the Philippines.
Mark is admitted to practice law in New York and the Philippines. He is active in the Filipino American Lawyers Association of New York, where he has served as a Director, Executive Board member, and Chair of the Foreign Trained Attorney Committee. He is also a member of the New York State Bar Association, Integrated Bar of the Philippines, and Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Outside of his legal practice, Mark is an avid traveler and photographer who has backpacked extensively and visited more than 50 countries. That global perspective carries naturally into his work with businesses operating and expanding across borders.
